Launching on the social and economic policy called Doi Moi, Vietnam has changed. Currently, Vietnam has been marked as one of the fastest developing countries in the world. This growth, on the other hand, widens economic disparities between the rich and the poor. In result, people such as the poor and the disabled are left behind in the development. At the moment, Bridge Asia Japan (BAJ) conducts activities in Ho Chi Minh, Hue and Quy Nhon to support well-being of the socially vulnerable people.

Founding members of BAJ had provided small-scale assistance for postwar rehabilitation from 1980’s. Then in 1992, BAJ has started tackling the issue of waste management in urban areas of Vietnam. From 1995, BAJ has assisted the children with disability to receive more opportunities for education and vocational training. From 2001, BAJ has conducted surveys on urban waste recycle and started a wide variety of projects such as environmental improvement project, a micro-finance system for encouraging small-scale businesses, and providing tutoring classes for the children residing in the poverty area of Ho Chi Minh City. These activities have currently expanded into the City of Hue and Quy Nhon.
